Welcome to the official website of Mäkiraonmäki Museum and Cultural Centre!
The town of Kannus in Central Ostrobothnia, Finland, offers plenty to see and experience for people of all ages.
Mäkiraonmäki is the former town centre of Kannus. It is a genuine building complex, not a reconstruction. The buildings are dated from the 18th and 19th century and they are owned by the town of Kannus. Freely translated Mäkiraonmäki means Hillcrevice Hill - perhaps an unusual name for most, but very familiar to the culture loving people in Kannus.
Sites
At Mäkiraonmäki you can find two museums, a summertime cafeteria, the local art society's house, the Kannus Workers Hall, an outdoor stage for music and theatre and of course an idyllic and authentic atmosphere with many old buildings. There is also a gift shop nearby.
Mäkiraonmäki is not the only place to visit in Kannus. There are for example many beautiful and interesting places to see in the local villages.
Events
There are many events throughout the year at Mäkiraonmäki, for example on summer Wednesday evenings there are small concerts or other shows on the outdoor stage, in early June there is an annual art festival with courses and exhibitions, in late August or in October there is the Local Heritage Day.
